Service Project on October 25th

October 25, 2025, at Elmwood Cemetery by the Holy Transfiguration Chapel at 1:30 pm.

Together with St. George Sunday School our Philoptochos Chapter will again offer a Service Project at Elmwood Cemetery.

Fr. Chrysanthos and Fr. Joseph will teach us about:

  • What our faith tells us about those who have fallen asleep in the Lord

  • The importance of the Trisagion Service

  • How the body is prepared for burial

  • The tradition of “Lighting the graveside candle”

  • 40 Day Memorial Service and the importance of Kolyva

Our chapter’s biggest fundraiser of the year! Our Fall Fundraiser!

This year it will be “An Abundance of Love” when we all meet at Fountain Blue in Des Plaines, IL

on November 14, 2025

Cocktails: 6:00 pm and Dinner will be served on 7:00 pm.

Our recent projects:

Ionian Village: Congratulations to our two scholarship winners for 2025!

Nikolette Rentzelos and George Blathras were each awarded $3,000 towards their Ionian Village tuition. We wish both of them a safe trip!

Thank you to our committee, Pam Papas, Mia Gziki, and Iliana Radaios.

 Operation Classroom: We helped two schools with their wish list this year.

Noble Day Care asked us to purchase a kitchen set for their classroom. We received a beautiful painting and thank you card from miss Popi’s class.

Schiler Park School District 81 requested a donation towards the purchase of a printer for their after-school program.

Ronald McDonald House:  Evelyn Nisbett, Athena Kalady, and Theodora Diolitsis delivered dinner for 50 guests to the Ronald McDonald House at Comer Children’s Hospital. The meal was prepared by Valois Restaurant in Hyde Park.

Phloptochos Mission Statement:
The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, Inc., is the duly accredited women’s philanthropic society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. The mission of the Society shall be:

• To help the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, the handicapped, the victims of disasters, to undertake the burial of impoverished persons and to offer assistance to anyone who may need the help of the Church through fund raising efforts; and

• To promote the charitable, benevolent, and philanthropic purposes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, through instructional programs, presentations, lectures, seminars, and other educational resources;

• To preserve and perpetuate Orthodox Christian concepts and the Orthodox Christian Family, and through them, to promote the Greek Orthodox Faith and traditions, in accordance with its doctrines, canons, discipline, divine worship, usages, and customs;

• To promote participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community, with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and the Parish Council.

The charitable work of the Society shall be performed with discretion, courtesy, and kindness.

Our Ladies Philoptochos Society Chapter 2007 meets monthly usually on the second Tuesday of each month. 

Meeting are held at Saint George and start at 7:30 pm.
